Unable to Install Downloaded Updates on Windows 7

Unable to Install Downloaded Updates on Windows 7

Postby jdsmusic » 10.09.2016, 20:27

This is a NEW installation of Windows7 SP1 and I have not been able to apply any updates due to the infamous Checking For Updates hanging for days!
Running sfc /SCANNOW shows no errors on the system. After much research I came across this utility and thought I would give it a try.

I did not have any problems with Update Generator but when I change to the Client folder and try to apply the updates I get the following error:

Did you download updates for Windows 7 x64 (Windows 7 64bit / w61-x64)? The "Windows 7" selection in the Generator is for 32bit Windows.

oops. the top headding in the interface showed Windows7 / Server R2 ( w61 /w61x64)

I failed to notice the two checkboxes underneath. x86 Global(multilingual) was selected! instead of the other one to the right.

Please close the cmd window and reboot your computer. Now manually install the file (double-click). REboot again and restart wsusou.

This could be fixed by temporarily setting Windows Update to "Never search for updates".

Thanks So Very Much for your help.

I changed the Windows Update settings to NEVER, rebooted and then the updates installed.

After another reboot, I relaunched Wsu Update Installer. It installed MSIE 11.

At this point, am I done? Do I reset Windows Update to check automatically?

You need to reboot and re-run the installer until it states "nothing to do". Then re-enable automatic Windows updates.

I have a similar error. This is a newly created win 7-64 sp1 machine, properly licenced and activated, but windows update just looks forever, and the Convenience Rollup and the standalone KB3020639 also both fail, so I was very please to see you
oh I also found and ran the fixit which said it hade made some fixes but still not working

I downloaded
windows 7 x64 global multilingual updates
incl service packs
incl C++ and .net
and verified it all succesfully (first time there was a checksum error, second time ok)
all other checkboxes left blank

found client and updateinstaller

and got this
Starting WSUS Offline Update (v. 10.8.1) at 22:52:01.13...
Checking user's privileges...
Determining system's properties...
Determining Windows licensing info...
Found Microsoft Windows version: 6.1.7601.17514 (w61 x64 enu sp1)

ERROR: Medium neither supports your Windows nor your Office version.

Ending WSUS Offline Update at 22:52:36.95...

So I'm struggling now, and help would be great thanks
