WSUS CPP problems

WSUS CPP problems

Postby Ramjammer » 01.06.2016, 14:38

Hi All,

Its been a while since I needed to use WSUS offline.

In the last few weeks Ive used it alot on multiple machines and it seems to be skipping installing all the CPP modules.

I now seen did a test on fresh windows 7 installs and windows 8 installs and no C++ gets installed no matter what!

You have to manually install the CPP versions you need, automated functions (if enabled in the installer) only update already existing CPP versions.

No, not a bad memory. When CPP was introduced, all packets were installed. It was only for a short time and quickly changed to only update already existing packages.

Introduced with Changeset #256 (2011-06-16):
- Optional installation of C++ 2005, 2008 and 2010 runtime libraries (Thanks to "Denniss" and "boco")

The change came with Changeset #259 (2011-06-21):
- C++ Runtime Libraries' installation option will now only update existing versions

So it was only for a short time (~5 days). However, release of WSUSOU 6.8.6 (#257) fell into that time span.

Why the change? What advantage could there be to not installing?

Im asking because every time I do a fresh windows install there are various items I pre install this includes CPP and Im wondering what other techies thoughts are on this.

See I always believed install all common modules runtimes etc to prevent user from needing to figure out how. Am I wrong?
