Stuck on "Listing ids of missing updates"

Stuck on "Listing ids of missing updates"

Postby bulrush » 05.03.2016, 21:21

System:

  • Gateway GT5056 computer with 12GB ram, 2 cpus.
  • Brand new Caviar hard drive where I installed Windows 7 Home Premium with a legit key. Key has already been activated.
Hi, I just got a new drive for an old Gateway GT5056 system and installed Windows 7 Home Premium with a legit key. I've been using WSUSOffline 10.6 and it has stalled several times when installing an MSU file, but I got around that. Now it is stuck at "Listing ids of missing updates" for over 2 hours and both CPUs are going at nearly 100%.

  • I know it's calculating something, but what is it calculating?
  • I don't have any antivirus yet, except MS Defender is on and possibly MS Firewall (it's on by default I believe).
  • I already put an exception for the directory of wsusoffline for MS Defender to ignore, and I assume it ignores all subdirs also.
  • Is there anything I can do to make it go faster? Or just wait a few more ours.

Thank you.

There's a simple answer: Microsoft has FUBAR'd Windows Update for Windows 7 (and sometimes 8). The problems started with their Win10 crusade last year. WSUSOU already does install a few prerequisite updates that ought to make the thing go faster. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for everyone. Waiting is the only option.

You may try the updates listed here:  viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5366

Thank you Aker! That should help. I did let it run and it took 8+ hours to go to the next step. I'm trying the "real" windows update now to make sure I didn't miss any updates.

It's not faster (based on the reports of many users & my own tests). :(

25 min here (w61-x64 with integrated SP1; wsusou 10.6; 1GB VMWare)

As some of the prereq-updates require a reboot when being installed as msu, a reboot after installing them might be helpful?

There are other factors besides the mentioned ones: The less updates are missing, the faster it goes. The problem is worst with a lot of updates missing.

"Schalte ich ab." müßte also auf anderem Wege geschehen... :|
