[SOLVED]Client on W7 32-bit - kb2532531 - installs every run

The wsusoffline client running on Windows 7 32-bit is installing kb2532531 every time it's run and requesting a reboot.

The update shows as installed in the list of updates under control panel, but WSUSOU is still (re)installing it every time. I've tried a completely new setup of wsusoffline, unzipping the latest version to an empty folder and downloading the Windows 7 32 bit updates with the default options in the generator, and still get the problem. I've tried manually uninstalling the update via the control panel and wsusoffline reinstalls it but still tries to reinstall it again on the second and subsequent runs.

The issue is particularly problematic for myself because we run wsusoffline at startup via wpkg-gp (a program for centrally managing software installation). Because the wsusoffline client is always returning a failure error code (3010 I think), wpkg-gp is running it every boot which slows things down. If I run the client manually I still get the same behaviour with always installing the same update.

So:

Throughout the following process, unless stated otherwise, I ensured wsusoffline would not be run by wpkg at boot (by unplugging the network cable during reboots).

Relevant screens in Windows:
Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates. This should show all updates that have been installed.
Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update > View update history. This shows just the updates installed by Windows Update and not the ones installed by wsusoffline or other means.
Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update > Select updates to install. This shows the updates available through Windows Update.

After kb2532531 has been installed by wsusoffline (the previous state where it was reinstalling every time)
Installed Updates - Appears, with a date that corresponds to one of the first times it was installed.
View update history - Does not appear.
Select updates to install - Appears.

After I remove it via the Installed Updates list and reboot
Installed Updates - Dows not appear.
View update history - Does not appear.
Select updates to install - Appears.

After I install it through Windows Update and reboot, things get interesting
Installed Updates - Does not appear. Instead a different update, kb2552343, appears with today's date.
View update history - Appears, with today's date. Ie these two screens are conflicting!
Select updates to install - Appears.

After I install it a second time through Windows Update and reboot
Installed Updates - Appears, with today's date.
View update history - Appears twice, with today's date.
Select updates to install - Does not appear.

Rebooting once more, and allowing wsusoffline to run this time, I get the following in its output log:

While this fixes the issue for this one PC I'm working on, I'd greatly prefer a scripted solution. Manually running Windows Update on a few dozen PCs defeats the point of using wsusoffline for me.

Excellent, that seems to have done the trick. I just dropped the relevant number into client\static\StaticUpdateIds-w61-x86.txt and on another PC the updater ran twice and reported success after the second run.

Where do you add that part of the command line? I am getting the same error but you are explaining this as if everyone knows what you are tallking about.

Hi,

several points:
First, this topic is from 2014, please do not assume that any information here is still correct and relevant.
Second, the post you quoted was meant for the specific individual and might not apply to yourself.

If you are using the GUI to download and update, you simply need to tick the "Include C++ Runtime libraries and .NET Frameworks" checkbox in the downloader. The packages will then be included in the generated media and the installer should use them*.


*Small note: The installer will only update C++ versions present on the target system. If you don't have the VS2015 runtimes, for example, the installer will not install them. You can install them manually from the media, of course.
