office 2013 on windows 8.1

Staging a clients new Toshiba laptop....Am I making a mistake by just selecting all office packages on 9.0 version and creating an ofc- .iso which I then try to run via the update program on the W8.1 64-system which has Office 2013 brandnewly installed?
The update process would not even detect the presence of office 2013 and therefore will not install any updates.
Crazy enough the online windows update process will also not detect any availble updates for the office product although I think to have seen a servicepack being availble.
Or should I assume the office suite being fully up-to-date after initial install ( which I could not believe.....)?
