UpdateInstaller shows blank (empty) "Software tab

UpdateInstaller shows blank (empty) "Software tab

Postby DanH » 06.05.2013, 18:06

Version 8.3, Win 7 Ultimate (English), Office 2010 Pro (English)

Testing UpdateInstaller 8.3.
UpdateInstaller works fine. However, the Software tab shows a blank (see screenshot below). Unchecking everything on the Update tab, except "Verify...", will start to install missing Office 2010 updates on my system.
So I guess that this is a GUI issue only. However, if I need to update a system that has Office 2010 installed and I do not want to have the Office software updated, how would I do that if the Gui does not allow to de-select it?
And why are there patches installed I do not have selected? Where does the blacklist come from? Is that equal to the hidden updates in the Windows Updates tool? However, the skipped updates below are not on the hidden updates list.

Thanks aker.
This answers why the Software Tab is blank. Good to know.

The other question was why UpdateInstaller installs anything at all if I just have selected Verify Installation Packages and nothing else?

All settings in that GUI are for optional components or advanced features. The core feature, installing missing updates, will be always done. With the Verify box checked all updates are additionally verified before installing them. The same for the other boxes.

However, if I need to update a system that has Office 2010 installed and I do not want to have the Office software updated, how would I do that if the Gui does not allow to de-select it?
If updates for Office 2010 are on the media (or in the /client directory), and they are missing, then they will be installed. There is no way to selectively select products for updating apart from not including these updates into the media.
