Pretends to go through updates

Postby ecvogel » 15.11.2012, 05:29

It installed XP SP3 and rebooted. Now all it does is go through the motions and says it is up to date. WU says there are many updates. All it did was put SP3 on. I did approve the AU update for the smaller files and ran WU for the new WU files. Still no go. This is with a new clean install of Offline wsus only selected WIn XP

Wsusou just installs security updates which are listed in wsusscn2.cab
All non security-relevant updates and security updates not listed in this catalog won't be detected or installed.

Windows Update reported 117 security updates. Don't quote me on it because I added a few that do not qualify but not many. I know how it works, but there were at least 100 or 110 security updates for WIn XP SP3. If you read the log above you would know it is something with a hash file that is not created.

Update I downgraded to the previou version and that now does not work either. Same error

Maybe the file .\client\wsus\wsusscn2.cab is corrupted.
Could you delete it and delete all files in .\client\md. Then run UpdateGenerator to get the newest file.

I will give it a try when this pc is done.
I tried to let the new install get that cab file but it got to 60 some percent and stalled for way to long and I gave up. I think I did try to restart it and it crapped out again.

I did so and it stalled getting the cab. So I typed the url in IE and downloaded the cab and put it in there, ran WSUS.
It is installing SP3 on a different PC now. But it complains of the hash file in there missing which will cause it to error out like before once SP3 is installed.

You just need to delete the file and empty the directory .\client\md.
Then start UpdateGeneraator and start a download run.

No, because your program stalls downloading the file and never does. I have to manually download it outside your program and stick it in the proper directiroy.

It does, but you need to clear the .\client\md directory before wsusou will do anything.

Please note the actual program doing the downloading is an external utility named wget.

And yes, some MS mirrors behave strangely. But even if you downloaded it externally and placed it where it belongs, you still have to clear appropriate file inside the ./client/md directory to have it regenerated.
