Questions & Clarification?

Questions & Clarification?

Postby Wirezfree » 22.05.2012, 18:28

Hello,

A "old" newbie, but learnring new things.

I have downloaded WSUOFFLINE. I'm on Win XP Pro SP3.
When I run downloader first time for XP it downloaded @ 900+ items.
Then it created ISO to burn to DVD, a bit to big for CD @ 760MB?

Questions?
- I have not tried the ISO yet, I need DVD burner :o
But the ISO also contains the updater application to apply updates?
(It is a standalone DVD?)

- If I run updater against machines already with XP Pro SP3, and "some" updates,
It will still only add missing updates, not do everything again?

I understand it only contains critical/security, not all others
Yo still need to Windows update for the rest.

Thanks - Dave(UK)

A common CD nowadays has ~700MiB (Mode1 data) or ~800MiB (Mode2 Form1 data). Yes, the ISO is too big for a CD (~1.4GiB, including SP3). DVD±R media are common now, who uses CD-R still?

Yes, it includes everything you need to run on its own. However, it still expects some Windows features and services to function correctly, namely WMI, VBScript, WU.

Correct, it determines the missing updates and skips everything else. Note there is still a commandline switch to force-update everything again for emergencies, though.

Yes, but then you can use the internet and WU safely, as at this point your Windows is up-to-date security-wise.
