Instal KB969084

Instal KB969084

Postby cr_groenveld » 08.03.2012, 14:41

When you install KB969084 on a Windows XP sp 2 machine you get a failure that the KB is not installed. This is correct because the minimum requeremenst are Windows XP sp 3.

In file SetTargetEnvVars.cmd in the client\cmd directory i have set the parameter ste OS_SP_VER_TARGET_MAJOR= to 2 soo my machine will not install SP 3 this because many machines where i install the updates do not have more then 512MB memory.

This KB should not be installed when the needed SP is not installed.

Good luck with it.

By the way : This is very good software.

Hi!

...which is also the minimum requirement for "WSUS Offline Update", because Microsoft does not support XP SP2 any longer (see http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=6794).
That's why WOU doesn't download updates which are integrated in SP3, but offers updates requiring SP3 like KB969084 (RDP 7.0) without further checks.

So you modified code and expectation.
This is unsupported and not recommended.
I don't know why 512-MB-computers should not install SP3.

So don't do that!
You chose it by selecting the "Update Terminal Services Client" option during installation.

Same to you! ;)

Thanks. :)

Hello Torsten,

When you install SP3 on a machine with 512MB or less, Windows XP becomes f****g slow. Thats why.

I'll understand that it's not supported that the cmd files are modifyed. This information i've got from https://svn.wsusoffline.net/svn/wsusoff ... aq-enu.txt.

Thanks for the solution of my problem.

Greats,

Cor

1. I have such machines and cannot confirm that.
2. Even if it was the case, better slow than outdated, unsupported and insecure. New updates are only delivered for Systems with SP3 installed.

Hello boco,

My users complaine about the slowness. Upgrading the machines cannot bee afforded.

Greets.

Users will always complain. Maybe they'll come to reason after the first malware attack due to unfixed security holes on their systems...
