[solved] can't update my windows (WSH)

Postby pdmagnet » 29.08.2011, 20:20

Hello, I'm new here, but I used WSUS in the past with no problems.
However I tried to update my machine and the updater stops with an error saying :
Error: Unsupported Operating System Language.
The OS language is spanish and the updates are for spanish OS.
If someone has an idea on how to fix this, please let me know.
Thanks.

Machine: XP pro - WSUS 6.9

Hi,

please manually execute ...\cmd\DetermineSystemProperties.vbs on that machine and post the resulting %TEMP%\SetSystemEnvVars.cmd file.

Thank you for your answer.
I executed the vbs file and it gives an :

Windows Script Error
Linea : 400
Caracter : 1
Error : The Remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable
Codigo : 800A01CE
Origin : Microsoft VBScript runtime error

The resulting SetSystemEnvVars.cmd file in the temp folder is 0 bites and notepad shows nothing inside.

Hi.

From ...\doc\faq-enu.txt (http://trac.wsusoffline.net/browser/tru ... aq-enu.txt):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: On installation of patches I'm getting strange errors in the command line window, e. g. "C:\wsusupdate\client\cmd\DetermineSystemProperties.vbs(92, 3) (null): 0x80041014". Then the script terminates. What is the cause and how can I solve this problem?
A: For trouble-free execution, the script requires the correct installation and configuration of the following Windows services/components: "Automatic Update/Windows Update (WUA)", "Windows Script Host (WSH)" and "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)". Please check first if you have restricted or even disabled these services with tools like TweakUI, nLite/vLite, XP-Antispy, XPy, Tuneup Utilities etc. If that's not the case, the cause is most probably an erroneous WMI registration. Download the WMI diagnostics tool from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en) and use it to scan you system for WMI-related errors. Further technical information is given on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc787057(WS.10).aspx; the WMI FAQs you'll find on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 92772.aspx.

Thanks a lot Torsten !
After you gave me those pointers it was fairly easy to track down the problem, and the solution was to download and install WSHost, re-registering some files and making sure that some keys were present in the registry. After that everything worked like a charm.
That http://trac.wsusoffline.net/browser/trunk/doc/faq-enu.txt give me answers to some other questions as well.
Again, thank you very much.
