UpdateGenerator takes a very long time to download patches

First and for all, I run WsusOffline is stored on my NAS box, not locally on my desktop. But as it can +40MB/s write & +50MB/s read over 1Gbit network I don't think there's my bottleneck.

Since a couple of versions back the UpdateGenerator takes ages to complete a check of these options:
WinXP English & Dutch
Win7 x64 Global
Office 2007 SP2 English & Dutch
------
Cleanup download directories
Include SPs
Include MSSE
Verify downloaded updates
Include .net 3.5 SP1 & 4
Include Win Defender defs

I started a new download at 17:50, and now (19:15) it's still running. I think Win7 & Office are done, it's now still doing WinXP.
Is this normal? I seem to recall a couple of months ago it was a matter of 10-20 minutes to complete (also stored on the NAS).

Office updates and superseded updates are now determined automatically. These features are relatively time-consuming, but shouldn't exceed a few minutes. Previously, Office updates were statically maintained and superseded updates not detected.

However, you're not the first where the new features take an excessive amount of time. WSUSOU runs fastest on a local storage medium. Note that it creates a log of the download process. Could you post one download session of the log (there's no personal information in it besides the user-/computer name)?

Well, the UpdateGenerator.exe crashed yesterday evening after 2 hours & 10 minutes, so I'll probably have to rerun a new session to get a complete log. I didn't find one in my temp folder.
I'll try and do it this evening or tomorrow (if I don't forget ).
Just for the exercise I'll do the same on my local storage.

@Harry: I've changed the short date from d/MM/yyy to dd/MM/yyyy and am running another download. For the moment it doesn't seem to be much faster. I'll see when it's finished.

If the date format change doesn't do a tremendous change, tomorrow I'll rerun from my local storage. I won't have the time for that this evening.

@Harry: changing the date format did speed up the download process considerably. Before it took 3 hours to complete a session (see last log I posted), and after it only took just shy of an hour.
So that will definately be a trick I will remember.

And it seems I stand corrected of my NAS not being a bottleneck: I just now reran a session from local storage, and that took 15 minutes instead of an hour. I expected some improvement, perhaps 15-20 less, but not this much.
I guess from now on I'll start with a move of all WSUS stuff from my NAS to my desktop, launch a download, and move it back to the NAS once finished. Copying vice-versa will only take a couple of minutes.
