Novice: Help me to exclude certain downloads

Postby Zuhair » 21.09.2017, 09:12

I just started using WSUS Offline yesterday for my home computer. I want to exclude certain x86 files from download as my system is Win7 x64. For example I want to exclude the file <\client\o2k13\enu\proplussp2013-kb2817430-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe>. I added a file \wsusoffline\exclude\custom\ExcludeListForce-all.txt. The content of the file is only the name of the file to be excluded i.e

proplussp2013-kb2817430-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe

but it did not work for me. I am a novice. I do not know the correct way so please help me to solve the issue.

That file is from Office, so you seen to have selected that. Note that your Office will be still 32bit in most cases, even if Windows itself is 64bit, so these updates do still apply.

If you truly have 64bit Office (nothing to do with the Windows bitness), you need to read the FAQ that came with WOU, as you have to enable 64bit Office downloads, first.

Before I forget, if you have the Click-2-Run version of Office (most consumer Retail versions are C2R), it is not supported by WOU at all since it isn't updated through WU.

I checked, the Office is 64bit. I read the FAQ once again, but no solution for my issue. I do not know how to enable 64bit Office downloads as there is no such option for Office in WSUS Offline. The Office is also not Click-2-Run version.

You need to run the .\cmd\AddOffice2010x64Support.cmd script to get 64bit downloads. Might need to be re-run after an update of WU. Even if the name suggests Office 2010, it also applies to 2013.

The WSUS has already downloaded all the 64bit updates for Office. Still I ran the script that you mentioned. I have installed only Excel and Word from Office 2013 but the WSUS has downloaded all the updates for all the components of Office. The directory < wsusoffline\client\ofc\glb > is 4.01GB. Is there a way to make it smaller and exclude the updates of other components of Office like Access, Publisher, Onenote, Outlook, Powerpoint etc.?

For example how would I exclude a file < wsusoffline\client\ofc\glb\outlook-x-none_1804a7b3a586a671b6f2b17bb45bc747b51340e6.cab >. If I succeeded in excluding this file, I hope I will handle the issue to much extent.
