Big office update (5,33 Gb)

The update for the office 2013 takes more than 5 Gb and does not vanish on DVD. How to split it into multiple disks?

Hello Ankarii,

If the destination Office 2013 installations already are based on SP1, then you could leave out the Service Pack (KB2817430, here about 650 MB). For now, the Office 2013 updates then could just fit on a 4.7 GB DVD.

I just checked it. I downloaded the updates again. Without SP.

2013 x86-x64 - 5.47 GB

MS doesn't make any difference between Office versions in their catalog. Hence the ofc directory is very big as it contains all updates for all Office releases. It's recommended to use a USB thumb drive.
Microsoft update catalog: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/

Actually it is possible, but not automated. If you search for all UpdateIds in the MS Update Catalog you will be able to find out, which update is for which platform...

Not all workstations are allowed to use USB thumb drive.

Well, IMO this is really simple:
  • use a dual/double layer DVD/DVD-RW/DVD+RW
  • use some external drive (USB, FireWire, eSATA etc)
  • use a network share
However, if neither of these are available it gets complicated, because you would either have to create multiple ISOs or determine which update files are required. But then again I wonder why you'd have to install updates anyway (when there's no USB and network connection).
