WSUS OFFLINE Download Problems

Thought the Panda thing helped for me , but no. But following the "Unlocker" advise it did not helped with Unlocker, but i downloaded a little tweaker app called TakeOwnerShipEx and booted in Safe Mode, then rick-clicked the Temp folder, then Take Ownership, restarted and booted normally, then WSUS OFFLINE worked well.


I thought about disabling Panda too, but being unprotected while online-internet worry me. The thing is that something is messing the ability to finish the extraction of package.xml.

I was also getting the error : Download failure for dotnet x86-glb. I stopped Panda AV in services.msc, and WSUS ran to completion. Thanks for the info.

In my case i had to both clean the temp directory (using a linux livecd, not sure about safe mode) and disable panda before running WSUS for it to work. Already tested on my 2 machines.

its important to clean the temp directory if you already had the error, otherwise the immortal Package.xml file its already there even if you disable Panda lol

I am seeing the same exact error as the OP post, except i am running Vista 64bit and use neither panda av nor malwarebytes.

I still wonder, why Panda Antivirus should take over the ownership of the file and block access of other users to the file. If this is a way to put suspicious files into quarantine, then the antivirus software should provide a user interface to:

• unlock/restore the file
• possibly delete the file
• train the antivirus software to remember the file as "trusted"
• possibly send a message to the antivirus manufacturer, to report a false positive malware recognition

All this shouldn't require a Linux live CD or other tools.

The documentation for Panda Internet Security mentions a special "quarantine folder", but maybe the files are just kept in place and only locked down for other users?

I have full permissions for temp and UAC is turned off.
I notice that the folder claims to be read only (and if I edit this, it comes back), but I can open and edit the text file wsus generates (staticdown...)
After clearing the entire contents of temp and running wsus again, i get the same error. (included below)
WSUS creates and leaves 2 files in temp, package.xml thats dated 10/10/2016 and StaticDownloadLinks-dotnet.txt thats dated 10/22/2016.
When I delete these and run a clean download of wsus, I see the same download progress as the OP before it errors out again at w60-x64 glb

I will try again tonight to see if i download updates without problem after using TakeOwnerShipEx, i want to be sure is an ownership problem and not Panda because hbuhrmester is right, Panda has a quarantine folder and it notify any action if a file were blocked.

Note that in regard to the directory claiming to be read-only, please read what Windows itself says about it:



Read-only "only applies to contents". A directory container itself cannot be read-only, so you do not need to worry about that. Some of the contents might be read-only or locked, thus the checkmark shows "mixed" state.

I was going to download new updates and got the same problem so that means the app TakeOwnershipEx did not worked and disabling Panda neither.
