Download ONLY updates needed

am sure this has been asked before and I did search but I couldn't find anything.

here's my thing, I have windows 7 that I deploy, it has most updates already slip-streamed onto it, but it's missing a few and the dot-net and such

I don't want to do a full download, cause for the 32 and 64bit versions thats nearly 12 gigs of space.

what I want to know, is there a way to have it run one one of the machines and ONLY get the missing updates and files, rather than getting everything?

Where'd you get this number? My Win7 x86 and Win7 x64 repos is less than 2 GB total in size, the .NET stuff adds another ~700 MB. Even if I add Office 2007 x86 (in the same repos) I only get to ~6,5 GB total (Win7, .NET and Office).

To answer your question: No, WSUS Offline always downloads all updates. However, you can exclude updates in .\exclude\custom directory. But it would be a lot of work to do so unless you have a ready-to-use list of KB numbers you can simply paste into the right exclude files. That would be ExcludeList-X-Y.txt where X is the Windows version like w61, and Y is the architecture like x64, so for Win7 x64 is would be .\exclude\custom\ExcludeList-w61-x64.txt.

Note that there's another exclude directory .\client\exclude which is to prevent updates from being installed rather from being downloaded.

got that number from doing 2 seperate, one for each copy to folder X then zipping up the result
