Incorrect "newer version available" message, and download

WSUSOU UpdateGenerator downloads the newest main release, which is 7.2 (built from trunk r322).
This may be where my understanding is wrong. I thought that UpdateGenerator itself is 7.2 and built from trunk, and it downloads the UpdateInstaller and all the updates. I didn't think there was a version number on the UpdateInstaller or at least it used the same version number as the UpdateGenerator that built it.

WSUSOU-Updater checks the newest trunk (currently r332) and downloads it.

I run WSUSOS-Updater (v0.7c), which downloads trunk (332), and I thought that it then used that to update the Update Generator, but when I then run the Update Generator, the log includes the following line:
Mon 01/02/2012 13:40:31.12 - Info: Starting WSUS Offline Update download (v. 7.2+ (r329)) for wxp enu
Why does this still say r329? That's higher than 322, so it's been updated from the original 7.2 install - but I would think it would be up to 332, since that's what the Updater has.

If you want to keep update files just overwrite the WSUSOU files.

At least I understand if I download a new UpdateGenerator zip file I can just replace the old files, leaving the update files that have already been downloaded. Hopefully this won't be necessary, if WSUSOU-Updater does keep the WSUSOU-UpdateGenerator up to date.

I think if it would help if there were a document that explained how these different pieces fit together. Thanks for helping me work through understanding this.

7.2 was created 6. December (r323), the latest trunk r332 was created yesterday.

If you start 7.2 the log files are containing only:
Info: Starting WSUS Offline Update download (v. 7.2)
Info: Starting WSUS Offline update (v. 7.2)

If you start the latest trunk, the trunk version will be included:
Info: Starting WSUS Offline Update download (v. 7.2+ (r332))
Info: Starting WSUS Offline Update (v. 7.2+ (r332))

In my WSUSOU-Update folder should be an InstallLog.txt. Please post it here.

WSUSOU Generator doesn't show the newer trunk-releasses.
The are only shown by the cmd-scripts.

I don't know whether I am just being dense, but these explanations are not helping me understand. Can someone clearly explain the relation between WSUSOU-Updater and the UpdateGenerator? Is it that running the Updater only partially updates UpdateGenerator unless you also manually run some of the cmd files in the root of trunk? This is partly based on seeing that there is now a v0.8 of the updater. I have not touched this yet, but I assume I need to download it on top of my existing v0.7, and then run the listed command before running WSUSOU-Updater.exe (or is it Updater.exe?)

@Iwan, here is my InstallLog.txt.

UpdateGenerator ignores subreleases, it will only show the mainrelease.
WSUSOU-Updater downloads the newest subrelease.

Or do you mean the difference between r329 and r332.
You said, WSUOU-Updater shown, that your Version is r332, but the log says it is (v7.2 (r329)).
Please delete the logfile and rerun download.
If the logfile says r329 again, WSUSOU-Updater doesn't work correct.
Look at the last entry of WSUSOU in the Logfile.

The real Version of your program is in DownloadUpdates.cmd line 12
e.g.
Code: Select all
set WSUSOFFLINE_VERSION=7.2+ (r333)

Sorry for the delayed response - it took me a while to do enough to bother posting again. Thanks for all the help - I'm not absolutely sure I really understand everything, but with my latest updates, I think I'm back on track and have things working as they are supposed to and as I expect them to.

I downloaded WSUSOU-Update-v0.8.zip and unzipped it into WSUSOU-Update/. I then ran Updater.exe. It seemed to update some files, and then run WSUSOU-Update.exe. It looked like this downloaded the entire trunk, instead of just a few files, but if there were enough recent updates, then this makes sense. It then ran UpdateGenerator.exe, and all the log files look like everything is fully up to date.

In particular, InstallLog.txt now shows
Code: Select all
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:34.30 ----------  UPDATER  ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:34.32 ----------   v0.9    ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.45 ---------- VARIABLEN ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.59 - SVN-Server = https://svn.wsusoffline.net/svn/wsusoffline/trunk/
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.59 - WSUSUpdater = G:\WSUS\WSUSOU-Update
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.59 - WSUSOU = "..\wsusoffline"
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.61 - STARTOU = "UpdateGenerator.exe"
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.61 - STARTOUJN = Yes
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.61 - TRUNK = "G:\WSUS\WSUSOU-Update\trunk"
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:38.72 ----------   TRUNK   ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:32:44.27 - TRUNK = Download
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:24.97 - TRUNK = Download ok
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:24.97 ----------  CUSTOMS  ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.05 - Anpassungen = ok
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.19 ----------  INSTALL   ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Lokale Version: 332
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Online Version: 335
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Installation = Start (WSUSOU # Trunk)
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.22 - Install = Start
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:37.34 - Installation = done
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:37.36 ---------- WSUSOU-Go ----------
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:46.53 - WSUSOU = Start
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:46.58 ----------  E N D E  ----------
and the relevant line from log/downloadlog.txt is
Code: Select all
Fri 01/06/2012 19:53:15.80 - Info: Starting WSUS Offline Update download (v. 7.2+ (r335)) for wxp enu
so I'm a happy camper again.

The local trunk version was 332 and was updated to 335:
Code: Select all
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Lokale Version: 332
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Online Version: 335

Then WSUSOU was completely updated as the WSUSOU version doesn't match to the trunk version.
Code: Select all
Fri 01/06/2012 19:33:25.21 - Installation = Start (WSUSOU # Trunk)

So everythings looks good :ugeek:
