Hi negg,

Seems to be a change (bug?) in the latest wsusscn2.cab (2023-03-29 04:57, SHA-256: 906cb68d016c6c69f012251d42e169377de02cababfe85703fc183c1c78df3fa). The previous file (2023-03-14 13:50) didn't bring up those wim files.

Maybe before trying to fix that in the WOU code, we wait until the next patch day on April 11th?!?

To circumvent the download of those very large "featureondemand" wim files, just add an appropriate exclude rule:

.\exclude\custom\ExcludeList-w100-x64.txt

My first thought was an error in the wsusscn2.cab file. But this doesn't seem to be the case. As Dalai has indicated, it is most likely an implementation of a new update feature (see his post above).

So for the time being, I would suggest to use the exclude rule as posted.

MS has changed their update system to UUP, entirely. The updates come as UUP sets of files, these sets contain a lot of things you don't need for a live update. Example: Features On Demand (FOD), AFAIK these are the internal Apps and Features usually pre-installed. Then there's DU (Dynamic update, update for the OOBE components) and DU for sources (Dynamic update for the Setup component you boot into for installing fresh). You now need to exclude those and essentially cherry-pick the SSU and CU.
Even the formats of the updates themselves evolve. As they finally exceeded the file limits of CAB files, there is currently CAB+PSF. Latest Canary versions now introduced even another format, now they use WIM, internally.

UUP applies to everything beginning with 1809.

Es macht halt immer weniger Sinn, so zu aktualisieren. Es sind nur noch wenige Updates, um ein noch so altes System auf den Stand zu bringen, das geht auch easy offline. Normal ein Security Stack Update, ein .NET Update, und ein kumulatives Update, fertig.
MS hat die Systeme mehrfach umgestellt zund es ist ein ziemliches Chaos in der Update-Landschaft.
Plus die Zeitprobleme der Autoren.

WSUS' Hochzeit war bei XP, Vista, 7 und 8.
