How do I add a 'Requested hotfix' (KB978055)

How do I add a 'Requested hotfix' (KB978055)

Postby eiknom » 08.12.2010, 20:59

Hi
Can anyone please help me.
I need to install patch KB978055. This is a patch that is only available via a so called 'Hotfix Request'.
After I have downloaded it manually I have to unpack the file using a password provided by Microsoft.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978055

"Hotfix Request": http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBH ... kbln=en-us

Many thanks for your help!

Hi eiknom,

you may place the installer package in the platform specific directory under "client" (w60=Vista, w61=Win7).

To have it installed on client side, additionally add a line
Code: Select all
978055

or

Code: Select all
kb978055

to the corresponding ...\client\static\StaticUpdateIds-<platform>-<architecture>.txt file (Don't forget the Return).

NOTE: You'll have to uncheck the "Clean up download directories" ("Download-Verzeichnisse bereinigen") option for subsequent download runs, otherwise your patch file will be automatically deleted.

Hi Torsten,

I did exactly as you instructed.
After placing patch "Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu" in folder 'client\w61-x64\glb' I started the installation procedure.
The log file however displayed the following error and warning:

Error: File hash does not match stored value (file: ..\w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu)
Warning: Installation of ..\w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu failed (errorlevel: )

-----------------

After this failed attempt I tried to download all files again after placing the patch in the indicated folder and deselecting the tick box "cleanup download directories".
This gave the following error:

Creating integrity database for Windows Update Agent and catalog file...

Determining update urls for w61-x64 glb...
Verifying integrity of existing updates for w61-x64 glb...
..\w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu: No match
hashdeep.exe: Audit failed
Files matched: 84
Files paritally matched: 0
Files moved: 0
New files found: 1
Known files not found: 0

ERROR: File integrity verification failure.

-----------------

In my final attempt I placed the patch on an Internet share and added the URL to the required txt file.
Results as described:

Downloading the file via URL "http://en.swoopshare.com/get/d/13cc197d0ff5568c859d582ffd749782/f3d08b09cb2b1985781cbbbb6c549145/1292428160/11730c022e375ec0566d6aa4c40be488/Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu?queue" presented the following warning message:
"Warning: File "D:\Desktop\wsusoffline67\wsusoffline\client\w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu@queue" is unsigned"

The file is stored as "Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu@queue"

After running the UpdateInstaller.exe (and system reboot) the logfile contained the following information:

Info: Installed ..\w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB978055-v2-x64.msu@queue

HOWEVER...
After retreiving the list of installed patches (via PowerShel - Get-HotFix) the patch is NOT listed!!

Do you have any suggestion to fix this issue?

Pls. recreate the hash database by deleting ...\client\md\hashes-w61-x64-glb.txt and start another download run or turn off verification for installation.
And don't use patch files from shady sources...
