Hello,

I need some help tracking down and downloading this update for Portuguese (PTG) language version: WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-ptg.exe
I tried downloading all the updates with wsusoffline but this particular update was not among the files downloaded from Microsoft.
Originally the file would be downloadable through here: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/940157

Can someone help me get it?

Thanks in advance!

Use the following URL (it is from Microsoft Update Catalog):
Code: Select all
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/ftpk/2008/06/windowssearch-kb940157-xp-x86-ptg_8096978ba901eec63d6621c875be4dc536298c3b.exe

Thanks!

By the way, how did you get the actual URL?
Another question: is it possible to use wsusoffline in order to download the entire WU catalog, including KB940157?

Thanks again.

I'm not @harry, but you can view the page HTML source from the Catalog download page and grab the URLs from there.

Another question: is it possible to use wsusoffline in order to download the entire WU catalog, including KB940157?
No, the catalog file used by WSUSOU simply does not contain all URLs. MS does not offer any complete catalog, either, thus one would have to assemble all URLs statically. The constant change of the catalog makes that task almost impossible.

Thanks for the answers, glad to know how to grab the URL from the HTML.
I had no idea that the catalog links were constantly changing.
I wonder if it's possible to build a tool to scrape the entire catalog, maybe this was already discussed in depth.

No, I said the catalog is constantly updated/changing. Thus it will be a hard task to download the entire catalog. You might build a tool for spidering/scraping once they remove the ActiveX element that's currently restricting it to IE.

The point is moot, anyway, as MS, effective today, starts distributing only cumulative download packs over WU, like it does for 10. For the normal user, it's one big update per month (for Windows itself).
Individual updates will be no longer available, and next year they'll start adding all the old post-SP1 updates to the pack.
