I did searches & could not get any results, sorry if I am re-asking a past query.

Is there an update to cover Windows 10 in the pipeline & could you give all details available on it, please?

Regards,
Viv.

Hi!

Given that Microsoft will support Windows 10 by their update catalog file wsusscn2.cab, Windows 10 will be supported by WOU, too.

Torsten

As I understand it, MS will force Automatic Updates except for the Enterprise versions. Additionally, there are two branches, and only the LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch) is like the current model. In the extreme case MS might provide wsusscn2.cab only for LTSB (EnterpriseS, ServerS).

Hi boco,
as I understand you right, MS will support the wsusscn2.cab only at the Server- or Enterprise-Editions of Windows 10.

The way I see it, WOU is than useless for individuals. But Torsten has written it for us individuals. A newly set Windows 10 in the future will be as just as buggy, like any other Windows now already. It is therefore dangerous, to go online to collect Patches.

Is there any solution by MS?

We'll have to wait until a new wsusscn2.cab is released. If it contains w10-updates, the might be installable on w10 Core/Pro, too. I think, we'll have to wait until the release.

Please note I said 'might', not 'definitely'. However, the forced updates are a fact. So, for online consumer machines (almost 100%), WSUSOU might be of limited value as the update service will download and install as soon as any updates are found. But for updating offline PCs it can be used still, should MS make a wsusscn2.cab that supports the Current branch.

even if forced updates are enabled I would want a chance to install these before having the computer on the internet/internal network. Also Win 10 Pro has the ability to delay mandatory updates, so it could be interesting for these machines, too. Well, we have to wait for a new wsusscn2 :-)

in Addition: WOU 9.6 has "Detection capability added for Windows 10" in it's release notes, but 9.7 on my Win10 Pro claims "Unsupported Operating System (w10)".

It just means, that an handler for Windows 10's file versions has been added. But the support is still disabled, until it has been tested to work on Windows 10.

The option "Defer Upgrades" only delays larger feature upgrades. Security updates cannot be postponed easily.
